Training and Supervision for Self Builders building their basement

Although there is huge flexibility in what you might choose from me, most of the time everyone chooses just enough to get my otherwise free personal guarantee that if your concrete or your concrete joints visibly leak water I will repair those leaks free of charge.
See the full terms of this guarantee here. Opens in a new window.

Look for the ***. These are the items necessary to get your dry basement and the guarantee.
  1. £150 to answer all your questions as you plan your basement.

  2. £300 visit to show you how to tie your slab steel and to show you how to install vertical rods to get your slab level or falling to a slump.

  3. £300*** visit to supervise your slab concreting.
Plus additive at £23*** per m³ treated, plus £80*** for two pokers, generator and transformer hire.

  4. £300 visit to show you how to build wall formwork.

  5. Supply of rods at £3.50*** per m and nuts at £2.20*** each.

  6. £300*** visit to supervise your first wall concrete pour.
Plus additive at £23*** per m³ treated, plus £80*** for two pokers, generator and transformer hire.

  7. £300*** visit to supervise your second wall concrete pour.
Plus additive at £23*** per m³ treated, plus £80*** for two pokers, generator and transformer hire.
Obviously chemicals, rods and nuts vary. The typical cost of products and services to get the guarantee is about £5,000. However this would be no more, and probably less, than buying just materials elsewhere.

To get the guarantee you also need to do the following
  1. Have at least 5 strong men working hard throughout each concrete pour.

  2. Provide one source of electric power.

  3. Everyone carry out any commands I give on the day (typically, how to use a poker, how deep to pour concrete each pass, when to move on or get on with it.)

  4. Build your wall formwork to less than 2m high for the first pour then to the top for the second pour.

  5. Build your wall formwork well so that you don't have any large gaps grout could ooze through. Spray foam can be very handy.

  6. Do not try to pour more than 40m³ in a single day unless we have discussed it very carefully and I have given you the go-ahead.

  7. You must also do anything else stipulated anywhere on any of the web sites if I forget to put it here. And not cheat.

  8. If I turn up for a pour but stop the pour because I spotted a terrible mistake, I still need paying for the full supervision visit.
Choose only what you want. Everything can be paid for as we go along. No big investment required. If you change your mind about a basement, just stop.

Please note. Supervision visits are subject to a supplement for long distances or long journey times.Typically we can get to Leicester, Tunbridge Wells and Guildford without charging more.

All prices quoted are subject to carriage where required and VAT as appropriate.
